Lake Havasu Spring Break – Crazy College Parties Under the Sun
By Matt Scriven
Lake Havasu is famous for a very unusual tourist attraction – it is the home of the famous and historic London Bridge! It was transported from its original location over the River Thames in England when Lake Havasu’s city founder Robert McCulloch decided to go hunting for a great tourist attraction for his new city. He certainly found one! Nowadays, the London Bridge connects Lake Havasu City to an island in the lake, and is a top tourist destination of Arizona. There’s even a proper little English village underneath the bridge’s arches, which is almost Disney-like in appearance and atmosphere, and well worth a visit.
But there’s so much more to Lake Havasu than just the bridge. In fact, it’s becoming a real Spring Break hotspot, as more and more students discover the fun that’s to be had by living on a boat on the lake instead of checking into a resort. When you see the breathtaking scenery of Lake Havasu, with the mountains forming a magnificent backdrop to the huge body of water and 400+ miles of coastline, you don’t immediately think of it as somewhere to spend Spring Break. But that’s where you’re wrong!
Each year, crowds of sun-seeking college students bring their (or rented) houseboats to Lake Havasu to join all the rest – boats are bumper to bumper in some parts, and all of them are filled with groups of friends looking to have fun in the sun. There are watersports galore – it’s a great place to try waterskiing and jetskiing – and the water is alive with the sound of voices, laughter, and music as everyone gets to know their neighbours. Boats are usually tied together to make visiting and mingling easier – it’s like one big floating resort!
And there’s no need to stop the party when night falls – Lake Havasu City itself provides lots of great entertainment spots, from cozy bars and restaurants (serving everything from pub food to amazing seafood to international cuisine) to fast-paced clubs and discos. There are loads of surf clubs located right on the water, often providing beach parties which are always packed. Check out somewhere like Kokomo Havasu if you want the essence of a Spring Break vibe – it’s an amazing beach and surf party bar located right on the water, and it calls itself the West Coast Superclub. Rightly so: it’s the biggest dance club in the southwest, with over 10,000 square feet of dance floors and bars, and even a swimming pool!
Your Lake Havasu Spring Break is all about being in and around the water, and of course, about having fun.
